Tolerance

Crashed out last night without wearing lens nor removed foundation. Did not realise it till this morning. Yikes!

Dad is watching CNN as I type this. Katrina has given way to Rita. How wonderful that natural disasters like hurricanes are given female names. A reflection perhaps of how men view women? *bleah*

2 Christians appeared at my doorway not too long ago. The usual exchanges happened. Prior to that, she was rambling on and on about life etc etc etc and seem to be going nowhere.

Am not happy at this lack of religious sensitivity and made my point.

Why do I not see them approaching Muslims? Since you respect their religion, why can you not extend the same to mine? Unless of course you wish to quote the history theory that Islam and Christianity originated from the same parent religion.

The Lord is your Shepherd but he may not be mine.

In any case, the one thing that most people do not seem to understand about Buddhism is that there is no concept of God in Buddhism; regardless of whether u are a Mahayanese Buddhist, which the majority of Singaporeans are, or a Theravada Buddhist.

you are so wrong. Of course buddhism has the concept of god and the buddha talk about them all the time. In fact, the buddha is called the teachers of gods and men.

And this is how the buddha teach th ignorant god (paraphrased): everytime a universe ends in the big crunch, and a new universe starts with the big bang (yes! only buddhism does not contradict science when we talk about origin of universe), the sentient being that is first reborn is a higher being with abilities and lifespan higher than human (just as human has higher abilities than ants). This sentient being looked around, and see no other lifeform and the place is barren. So this being wishes that there are other lifeforms and trees, suns, moons etc. Then, other beings become reborned into this world too according to their karma, and by natural physical laws, suns and moons and trees are formed. But the egoistic being is under an illusion. he thinks: "at first there were no lifeform, no sun, no... Then I wish there is lifeform, sun..., and look, now there are! Therefore, these things must have appeared due to my wish. I made them appear! I am THE CREATOR"! Other beings, knowing that this higher being was around before them, also think that this being created them, thus accepting him as the creator.

BUT, the buddha reminded god that even though his lifespan (billions of years) is so much longer than humans, he would be foolist to think that he is immortal. he is subject to karma, he is subject to the cycle of life and death, and one day, he too will die and be reborn according to his karma. Only the buddha and his enligthened disciples are freed from reborn.

After explanation, sakka (the highest god in buddhist text) accepted the buddha as his teacher. and so, that's why the buddha's other title is TEACHER OF GODS AND MEN

So, the next time, some christian come to preach to you about "buddha is just a man, jesus is god" and other such rude comments, answer him (1) "buddha is born in the human form but buddha is not 'just a man' unless you christians fucking like us to say that jesus is 'just a man' since he does look like a man!" and (2) "yes, jesus is god. he and his father are both ignorant gods under the illusion that they created the world, and that's what my buddhism teach me"!

bottomline: you have the right to reply to rude insensitive preaching with equally rude insensitive answer (which are, after all, not your invention, but really taught in buddhism). Then only these preachers will understand "oh, the reason last time we never hear about such things is because those buddhists in the past have been too polite to tell us what they think of our religion, but we have been so rude and insensitive all these while that now some of them are not going to quietly smile at us when we are rude, anymore"!
